The Tapris

Priyadarshini (PD): snacksOne of my favourites, this has been a haven for college-goers for over 17 years now. It serves chai (but, of course) and a hoard of snacks too, but always with green chutney, sev and onion! The services are available between 7.30 am and 9 pm.

Address: Opposite MMCC College, BMCC Road.

Sachin Tea stall: This tapri has been in business for the last 25 years. Situated outside Kamala Nehru Park, a mixed crowd of early morning joggers, family and friends are found hanging out here. This place opens as early as 6.30 am and closes at around 8.30 pm. The stall-owner claims that his cutting chai is in demand throughout the day.

Zaika: It’s been around since 1983 and operates between 7 pm and 11 pm. For starters, it’s good coffee at reasonable price. Their speciality is undoubtedly the cold coffee with chocolate. But, they also serves hot coffee, hot chocolate, black coffee and Zaika Special cold coffee.

USP: Cold coffee with chocolate, Zaika special cold coffee, hot coffee (tapri style).

Price: Between Rs 10 to Rs 20.

Saurabh Dairy (Somu’s tapri): If you work in Kharadi, you can’t miss this tapri. It’s one of a kind that offers chai, bun maska and samosas, to name some. It caters to a large crowd from BPOs, call centres and IT companies located there. The stall opens as early as 6 am and closes around 9 pm. Its speciality are the flavoured teas — lemon, mint, tulsi, masala tea and the ever-popular chhotu chai. A new CYG tea has now been added to the list after the Commonwealth Games that the city hosted.

Swapna hotel: This will make the tapri lovers a happy bunch — a place that operates 24x7. It caters to a large number of collegians (pretending to be studying late night!) and truck-drivers driving at the dead of night or in the wee hours. Along with the tapri chai, you also get egg bhurji, misal pav, wada pav, pohe and bhajjis.
